Kenya Pipeline Company’s women’s volleyball team was officially flagged off on Wednesday ahead of the 2026 Confédération Africaine de Volleyball (CAVB) Club Championships set for April 13-24 in Egypt, with high hopes of bringing continental glory back home.
The ceremony, held ahead of the team’s departure, marked a strong show of support from the company’s leadership and stakeholders, who expressed confidence in the squad’s ability to compete against Africa’s best.
Speaking during the flag-off, KPC Managing Director Joe Sang rallied the players to stay focused and united, noting that teamwork will be key to success at the tournament.
“Victory will be defined by how well you play as a united team. Support one another, trust each other, and remain resilient,” said Sang.
In a move aimed at boosting morale, KPC announced lucrative incentives for the team. The players will earn Sh1 million if they reach the semi-finals and Sh2 million for a place in the final, and an extra reward should they go on to lift the continental title. The incentives underline the company’s commitment to rewarding excellence and hard work.
The team has been in an intensive training camp at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, where head coach Geoffrey Omondi is fine-tuning tactics and assessing player fitness ahead of the competition.
Omondi expressed confidence in his squad, saying the players are in good shape and ready for the challenge.
The squad blends experienced players with exciting young talents, including teenagers aged 16 and 17 who impressed during last year’s national championships. Their inclusion highlights KPC’s long-term investment in nurturing the next generation of volleyball stars in Kenya.
Team Manager Caroline Chebet said the players were showing determination and hunger to succeed on the continental stage. She added that the mix of youth and experience gives the team a competitive edge.
The CAVB Club Championships will feature top clubs from across Africa, offering a tough test for all participants. The tournament also serves as a qualifier for global competitions, making it even more important for teams aiming to gain international exposure.
Also present at the send-off ceremony were Sports Kenya representative Japheth Kaunyu, KPC Volleyball Chairman Paul Njuguna, and a section of KPC staff who turned up to cheer the team.
Kenya Pipeline now heads into the tournament with confidence, determination, and the backing of their sponsors, hoping to fly the Kenyan flag high and make a strong impression in Egypt.
