The fifth edition of the Nairobi city Marathon was officially launched on Thursday ahead of the highly anticipated race set for Sunday, June 7.
Speaking during the launch, Athletics Kenya official Barnaba Korir said this year’s edition is expected to be bigger and more exciting, with over 17,000 participants already registered.
Korir noted that the marathon continues to grow into one of the biggest road races in Africa while helping to market Nairobi as a global destination for athletics, tourism, fitness, and community activities.
The event will once again give runners a unique opportunity to compete on the iconic Nairobi Expressway, making it the only race of its kind in the country.
This year’s marathon will feature several categories including the 42-kilometre full marathon, the 21-kilometre half marathon, the 10-kilometre Expressway Run, and the fun run.
The race routes will pass through the heart of the city, starting near City Hall and finishing at Uhuru Park.
Korir said the marathon is not only about competition but also about bringing people together and promoting healthy living through sport.
Organisers also confirmed that bib collection will take place at Nyayo National Stadium before race day, while registration remains open through the official Nairobi City Marathon website.
Motorists have also been advised to expect temporary road closures along sections of the Nairobi Expressway and major roads within the city during the event.
The full marathon is expected to flag off from 6:45am, with other races starting at different times later in the morning.
