Junior Starlets pooled with hosts Tanzania in Cecafa U17 Championship

Junior Starlets pooled with hosts Tanzania in Cecafa U17 Championship

Kenya’s Junior Starlets have been drawn in Group A of the upcoming Cecafa U17 Women’s Championship that will be held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from June 13 to June 23.

The Kenyan girls will face hosts Tanzania, Somalia and Sudan in what is expected to be a tough group stage battle as teams fight for a place in the knockout rounds. Group B will feature Uganda, South Sudan and Djibouti.

The regional tournament will bring together some of East Africa’s best young female footballers and will give the Junior Starlets another chance to showcase their talent at the regional stage.

Playing against host nation Tanzania is expected to be one of the biggest tests for Kenya because of home support and rivalry between the two nations. Matches against Somalia and Sudan will also be important as the Junior Starlets target a strong start in the competition.

The tournament is part of efforts by Cecafa to promote women’s football in the region and help young players gain international experience at an early age.

Kenya will head into the tournament hoping to continue developing young talent and build a strong team for future continental competitions.

Football fans across the region are expected to closely follow the championship as East Africa’s rising stars battle for regional glory in Tanzania.
