Kenya’s preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations have received a major boost after fresh updates showed that the Talanta Stadium project is nearing completion.
The stadium, which is expected to be one of the key venues for AFCON 2027, has now entered its final construction stages with reports indicating that the work is about 80 percent complete.
One of the biggest signs of progress is the installation of seats inside the stadium. The red and green seats, inspired by Kenya’s national colours, now dominate large sections of the arena and give fans a glimpse of how the finished venue will look during major matches.
The massive structure is slowly transforming into a modern football facility capable of hosting continental competitions. Roofing works and upper seating sections are also almost complete, creating the atmosphere expected in a world-class stadium.
Attention has now shifted to the playing surface, where workers are preparing the foundation for the pitch. The stadium is expected to host both football and athletics events, meaning the facility must meet international standards set by FIFA and World Athletics.
Some interior sections, including VIP areas and media centres, are still under construction, with scaffolding visible in several parts of the stadium. These areas are considered important for hosting major international tournaments such as AFCON.
Although the stadium was initially expected to be handed over in March, the completion date has now been pushed to between May and July this year.
The progress will come as good news to football fans across the country as Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania continue joint preparations to host the 2027 AFCON tournament.
Once complete, Talanta Stadium is expected to become one of Kenya’s flagship sporting venues and a symbol of the country’s ambition to grow football and athletics on the continental stage.
