KCB seek redemption in Kenya Cup final against rivals Kabras Sugar

KCB seek redemption in Kenya Cup final against rivals Kabras Sugar

KCB Rugby Club are heading to Kakamega with one mission to settle scores with Kabras Sugar in Saturday’s Kenya Cup final at the ASK Showground.

The Bankers are back in the final for the first time since 2024, when Kabras handed them a painful 29-5 defeat. This time, however, KCB believe they are stronger, more prepared, and ready to fight for the title.

Head coach Andrew Amonde says the team has grown a lot during the season and is fully focused on ending Kabras’ dominance.

“We have improved as a team this season and the players understand what is at stake. We are ready to give our best performance,” said Amonde.

KCB enjoyed an impressive campaign, going unbeaten throughout the regular season. They only missed out on top spot because of points difference behind Kabras.

One of the clearest signs of their improvement came in March when they held Kabras to a tense 10-10 draw before heavy rain forced the match to stop. Amonde believes that performance showed his side can match the defending champions.

“Kabras are a strong side, but we know we can compete with them. What matters now is executing our game plan well,” he added.

Team captain Bob Muhati says the players are motivated by the memories of last season’s heavy defeat and are determined to make amends.

“This is the moment we have worked for all season. Everyone in camp is focused and ready to fight for the title,” said Muhati.

KCB have also received a major boost with the return of Kenya Sevens stars Vincent Onyala, George Ooro, Samuel Asati and Festus Shiasi, who are expected to add experience and speed to the squad.

The final is expected to attract huge attention as Kenya’s top two rugby sides clash once again in one of the country’s biggest rugby rivalries.
