Talanta Stadium construction hits key milestones ahead of 2027 AFCON

Talanta Stadium construction hits key milestones ahead of 2027 AFCON

Construction of the new Talanta Sports City Stadium has reached important milestones as Kenya continues preparation to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

The latest progress includes the completion of pitch ground levelling and the installation of LED advertising board frameworks, marking a major step toward delivering a modern stadium for the continental tournament.

Ground levelling, a key stage in stadium construction, has now been completed. Engineers moved thousands of cubic metres of soil to create a perfectly flat base for the playing surface.

This stage is important because it prepares the field for the installation of the advanced hybrid turf system that will be used at the stadium.

With the levelling complete, the next phase will involve adding layers of sand, gravel and organic material that will allow the hybrid grass to grow properly. The pitch is expected to meet the strict standards set by both Confederation of African Football and FIFA.

Away from the pitch, work is also progressing in the stands. On the second stand of the stadium, the mounting structures for LED advertising boards are now clearly visible. These digital boards will replace traditional static advertising panels used in older stadiums.

The LED ribbon boards will allow sponsors to display dynamic adverts during matches while also showing real-time match information such as statistics, VAR decisions and fan engagement graphics. The system will also enhance television broadcast quality by ensuring the displays are visible from different camera angles.

The stadium is a key project for Kenya as the country prepares to co-host AFCON 2027 together with Uganda and Tanzania.

With construction progressing steadily, the Talanta Sports City Stadium is expected to play a major role when Nairobi welcomes African football fans during the tournament.
