Tusker’s poor finishing came back to haunt them after they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Nairobi United in a Kenyan Premier League clash at Nyayo National Stadium on Wednesday.
Despite starting the match strongly and creating early chances, Tusker failed to convert, allowing Nairobi United to take control and walk away with all three points.
The Brewers looked dangerous in the opening minutes, with Bless Bakai testing goalkeeper Kelvin Oduor, while Ian Simiyu had a goal ruled out for offside. But their inability to find the net proved costly.
Against the run of play, Nairobi United struck in the 18th minute through Muhadjiri Hakizimana. The midfielder finished off a well-worked move involving Dancan Omalla, curling the ball into the top corner to give his side the lead.
That goal shifted the momentum, with Nairobi United growing in confidence and creating more chances. Benson Omalla nearly doubled the advantage before halftime, but his header hit the post.
In the second half, Tusker coach Julien Mette made changes in a bid to rescue the match, but his side continued to struggle in front of goal.
Nairobi United remained the more composed side, with Hakizimana and Mustafa Kizza both coming close to extending the lead, while Omalla forced a save from goalkeeper Pavelh Ndzila.
Tusker’s best chance to equalize came in the 71st minute when Dennis Iguma’s free-kick hit the post, summing up a frustrating evening for the Brewers.
The loss marks Tusker’s second straight league defeat, dropping them to eighth place and highlighting growing concerns over their form.
Meanwhile, Nairobi United continue their impressive run, stretching their unbeaten streak to eight matches and moving up to fourth place as their strong finish to the season gathers momentum.
