CAVB sets sight on youth development and continental excellence

CAVB sets sight on youth development and continental excellence

The Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) has reaffirmed its commitment to growing the sport across the continent after holding a high-level strategic meeting focused on youth development and preparations for a major continental tournament set for August 2026.

The important working session took place at the CAVB headquarters on February 11, 2026, bringing together key technical and administrative officials.

The discussions centered on two main priorities: the implementation of a structured Youth Development Programme and the organization of the upcoming continental competition.

At the heart of the meeting was the operational planning of a programme designed to identify, train and support young volleyball talents across Africa. Officials discussed clear mechanisms for scouting, mentorship and long-term player development, while ensuring that national initiatives align with the broader continental vision.

The goal is to build a strong and competitive pool of young players who can meet the growing demands of international volleyball.

Participants emphasised the need for a structured approach that includes proper training, regular monitoring and continuous evaluation to achieve measurable results in the medium and long term.

CAVB believes that investing in youth is key to securing the future of African volleyball on the global stage.

The meeting also reviewed progress in organizing the continental tournament scheduled for August 2026. Key areas discussed included the competition calendar, logistics coordination, engagement of national federations and technical requirements.

CAVB aims to make the tournament a highlight of the African volleyball calendar, boosting both the visibility and competitiveness of the sport across the continent.

Another major item on the agenda was the planning of a Beach Volleyball referees’ course in preparation for the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar.

The course is intended to enhance the technical skills of African officials and ensure strong and qualified representation at the global event. Beyond the Youth Olympics, the initiative seeks to strengthen refereeing standards across Africa, improving professionalism and credibility in the sport.

The strategic session reflects CAVB’s broader vision of structured growth, careful planning and excellence.

By investing in youth development, improving officiating standards and preparing thoroughly for key competitions, the continental body is laying a solid foundation for African volleyball to compete strongly on the world stage.
