KCB Rugby Club have confirmed the departure of reliable lock Andy Cole Omollo, who is set to begin a new chapter in Japan after earning an educational scholarship to Tenri University.
The promising forward, who has been one of KCB’s standout performers this season, will leave the country on Saturday, March 28, to pursue both his studies and rugby career in one of Asia’s fast-growing rugby environments.
Omollo exits the club on a high following an impressive campaign where he collected multiple Man of the Match awards and established himself as a key figure in KCB.
His consistent performances not only strengthened his position at the club but also highlighted his growth as one of Kenya’s rising rugby talents.
In a statement, KCB Rugby expressed pride in Omollo’s achievement, noting that the move reflects the club’s commitment to nurturing all-round athletes both on and off the pitch.
The club said it was delighted to see one of their own secure such an opportunity, adding that supporting players in both education and sport remains a core part of their vision.
They also wished him success as he embarks on the next phase of his journey, emphasising that he will always remain part of the KCB rugby family.
Omollo’s rise has been steady and inspiring. He first made a name for himself at Chavakali High School before refining his skills at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST).
His performances there earned him a call-up to the Kenya Under-20 rugby team, where he continued to shine.
He later captained the Kenya U20 side at the World Rugby U20 Trophy, showcasing his leadership qualities and further boosting his profile on the international stage.
His growth also opened doors to the senior national team, where he featured in major competitions including the Elgon Cup and the Rugby Africa Cup, gaining valuable experience at the highest level.
The move to Tenri University now offers Omollo a unique platform to balance academics with elite rugby, while also exposing him to a different style of play that is expected to sharpen his skills further.
As he departs, Omollo leaves behind a strong legacy at KCB Rugby, with the club and fans confident that his journey abroad will not only benefit his personal development but also contribute to the future of Kenyan rugby.
