NOCK appointments boost Kenya’s Olympic dream

NOCK appointments boost Kenya’s Olympic dream

Kenya’s journey towards future Olympic success has received a major boost after the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) unveiled key commissions to guide the country’s long-term plans.

Four officials from the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) have been handed influential roles, showing a growing link between football leadership and Kenya’s wider Olympic ambitions.

Harambee Stars team manager Nick Kimanthi has been appointed to the Technical-Elite Performance Commission, a key unit focused on improving Kenya’s performance at the global stage.

At the same time, FKF NEC Women Representative Violet Kerubo Momanyi will chair the Gender Commission, highlighting efforts to promote equality and inclusion in sports.

FKF Football Development Director Francis Kimanzi and FKF CEO Dennis Gicheru have both been named to the Appeals Commission, which deals with discipline, governance, and fairness in sport.

These appointments reflect NOCK’s plan to strengthen leadership, promote gender balance, and improve professionalism across all sports.

The move is part of a bold 10-year roadmap aimed at preparing Kenya for upcoming Olympic Games, including the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles and the 2032 Games in Brisbane.

NOCK has set an ambitious target of winning at least 10 gold medals in Los Angeles 2028, an improvement from the four gold medals won at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

To achieve this, the committee is investing in sports science, better training systems, and improved athlete welfare through structured high-performance programs.

There is also a strong focus on youth development through the “Raising Stars” program, which aims to nurture young athletes aged between 12 and 18 and expand Kenya’s participation in more Olympic sports.

Governance reforms are also key, with NOCK pushing for integrity in sport and working closely with anti-doping agencies to ensure fair competition.

The latest changes not only strengthen FKF’s role within Kenya’s Olympic movement but also show a united effort to build a more competitive and diverse team for the future.
