Excitement is building in Nanyuki ahead of the 2026 PIPSSA Kenya Inter-County Sports Tournament, which has drawn a record number of teams from across the country and beyond.
The championship will take place on March 7, 2026, in Laikipia County, with St Christopher’s School leading the hosting arrangements alongside a well-organised Local Organizing Committee. The event is expected to be officially launched by Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu.
This year’s edition will feature a wide range of sports including swimming, basketball, chess, soccer, taekwondo and skating. The tournament continues to grow in reputation as one of Kenya’s leading grassroots multi-sport events for preparatory schools.
Among the confirmed participants are Nova Pioneer, Potterhouse School, Riara Schools, Three Rivers Schools, Ripples International, Highland Schools, Foresight Academy, Makini Runda, Kitengela International School, Nyahururu Elite School, Braeburn Schools, Millbrook School, Meru Aquatics and Joyful School. Their participation highlights the depth of junior sports development across the country.
The games will be co-hosted at St Christopher’s School in Nanyuki and Three Rivers Schools, both equipped with modern facilities suitable for competitive youth championships.
Speaking to our media team, St Christopher’s School Director Bernard Mathu confirmed that all facilities are ready and the competition grounds have been carefully prepared.
He said the tournament is not just about winning medals.
“This is about giving our young athletes an experience they will never forget,” Mathu said. “We want fair and healthy competition, and we want parents, coaches and swimmers to enjoy every moment.”
Mathu also noted that visiting teams will have a chance to explore some of Nanyuki’s top attractions, including the famous Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the Equator crossing point and the scenic views of Mount Kenya.
The Head of Sports at St Christopher’s School, Samuel Githinji, described the event as prestigious and important for talent development.
“All preparations are complete. We are ready,” he said. “This tournament plays a crucial role in identifying and nurturing young talent. These are future national and international stars.”
In another boost for the school, St Christopher’s has also been selected to host the Kenya Aquatics National Junior Swimming Championships in August, further cementing its growing status in youth sports.
At Three Rivers Schools, preparations are also complete. Girls’ football coach Salome Jumba said the school is ready to welcome athletes, coaches and parents, with security and logistics fully in place.
Meanwhile, PIPSSA Kenya CEO Fidel Juma welcomed all participating teams and reaffirmed the association’s mission of promoting sportsmanship, discipline and talent growth among young athletes.
He also announced strong corporate backing for the 2026 edition, including Optiven Real Estate, Avenue Hospital, KFC Nanyuki, ICEA Lion, Equity Bank, Davis & Shirtliff, KCB Bank, Cottage Hospital, Sportsmarm Hotel, Beisa Hotel and Genesis Sports Limited.
As Nanyuki prepares to host hundreds of young athletes and families, the 2026 PIPSSA Kenya Inter-County Sports Tournament promises more than just competition. It promises passion, opportunity and unforgettable memories — the true spirit of sport.
