Kenya’s Junior Starlets are set for a crucial test after head coach Mildred Cheche named a strong provisional squad ahead of their upcoming FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Uganda.
The team heads into the tie full of confidence following an impressive 7-1 aggregate victory over Namibia in the previous round. That dominant performance has seen Cheche retain the core of her squad, rewarding players who delivered and maintaining stability within the team.
Attention now shifts to a tougher regional challenge, with the first leg scheduled for May 22, 2026, at FUFA Stadium in Kadiba, Uganda, before the return leg on May 30, 2026, at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.
The Junior Starlets will enter residential camp on May 6, where they are expected to sharpen tactics and finalise the squad for the two decisive matches.
Cheche credited her team’s confidence and strong home support for the big win over Namibia but warned her players against relaxing.
She emphasised that the Namibia result is now behind them, urging the team to focus fully on the Uganda clash, which she expects to be more competitive.
Despite the expected challenge, the coach remains confident in her players, noting their talent and potential to step up on the big stage.
A positive result away in Uganda could put Kenya in a strong position before finishing the job at home in Nairobi, as the Junior Starlets continue their push for a place at the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.
