Harambee Stars defender Zak Vyner could miss the rest of the season after suffering a groin injury that has kept him out for over a month.
The Kenyan international has not featured for Wrexham AFC since early April, missing four crucial matches as the club pushes for a promotion playoff spot in the English Championship.
Wrexham head coach Phil Parkinson has now confirmed that Vyner is still far from recovery and will not be available for their final league match against Middlesbrough this weekend.
“Zak is a bit behind. He has a problem with his groin which he picked up in training after the Southampton game. It’s unfortunate because he had been doing very well,” said Parkinson.
The defender had become an important player for the team, stepping in during an injury crisis and impressing with his versatility, even playing in midfield.
Wrexham are currently in a tight race for the final playoff position. They must beat Middlesbrough to secure sixth place. A loss or draw could see them miss out, especially with rivals close behind on points.
If Wrexham qualify for the playoffs, matches are set to begin in early May, with the final scheduled for May 23. However, it remains unclear whether Vyner will recover in time to feature again this season.
Vyner joined Wrexham in January from Bristol City and quickly became a key figure, playing eight straight matches before his injury setback.
His absence is a big blow both for Wrexham’s promotion hopes and for Harambee Stars, as the defender continues his recovery.
