Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier has urged organisers to lower ticket prices for the upcoming Mashemeji Derby, saying fans should not be locked out of one of Kenya’s biggest football matches due to the tough economic situation.
Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated clash between Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, Rachier said supporters are the heartbeat of Kenyan football and deserve affordable access to the stadium.
He noted that the current economy has made life difficult for many Kenyans and called on match organisers to reconsider the ticket charges to allow more fans to attend.
AFC Leopards have already announced ticket prices of Sh500 for regular entry and Sh2,000 for VIP access for the 99th edition of the derby.
The match comes at a crucial stage of the Kenyan Premier League season, with Gor Mahia sitting top of the table on 58 points, just three ahead of AFC Leopards in a tense title race.
Rachier also touched on concerns over refereeing standards in recent league matches, claiming questionable decisions have affected teams during the run-in.
His remarks come after controversial moments in Gor Mahia’s matches against Bandari FC and Tusker FC, where the club felt key decisions went against them.
With the derby expected to attract a huge crowd, Rachier now hopes ticket prices can be reviewed to ensure more fans witness one of the biggest fixtures in Kenyan football.
