Boxing Federation of Kenya is celebrating what it calls one of the most competitive seasons in the history of the National Boxing League.
Secretary General David Munuhe says the level of intensity seen this year shows that Kenyan boxing is growing fast and getting stronger.
Munuhe spoke after Kenya Police famously known as ‘Chafua Chafua’ were crowned the 2025 National Boxing League champions during the season finale in Kisumu on Sunday.
Police entered the season as favourites and never looked back, dominating from the opening leg all the way to the final bell.
“The league was very good and ran smoothly without any hitches. As a federation, we are happy, and we congratulate every team that participated. We urge them to carry the same morale into next year, and we also hope that more counties will join,” said Munuhe.
Kenya Police sealed the title with class, winning the Kisumu leg by six points. They collected 30 points ahead of KDF’s 24, finishing the league with a commanding 110 points a total no other team could catch.
Kenya Defence Force’s (KDF) hopes to defend their title were hurt early in the season after missing the opening leg in Busia, a setback that remained costly throughout their campaign.
There were individual stars too. Kenya Police’s Boniface Mogunde, the national team captain and Africa Boxing Championships light-middleweight champion, was crowned the 2025 Best Male Boxer. Amina Martha walked away with the Best Female Boxer accolade.
On the ring, KDF’s Dennis Muthama won the national bantamweight title (54kg) after a tough campaign. His main rival, policeman Shaffi Bakari, was ruled out of the semifinals by medical officials.
Nairobi County claimed third place overall with 37 points, followed by Kenya Prisons with 28 and Nakuru County with 25. The top ten list also featured Nakuru Amateur Boxing Club, Kibra, Kisumu, Laikipia, and Githurai 44.
Other teams including Mombasa, Busia, Kongowea, Kiambu and Vihiga also competed, while five counties Mbaraki, Havana, Molo, Kwale, and Siaya managed one point each. Trans Nzoia and Kajiado finished the campaign without a point.
With the season now closed, the federation hopes the high competition, discipline, and passion seen this year will continue to lift Kenyan boxing even higher next season.
