Zarika and Okwiri face Ugandan and Tanzanian opponents on Friday as they make return

Kenya’s boxing scene is set for top action on Friday as national icons Rayton Okwiri and  Fatuma Zarika  return to the ring in a much-anticipated showdown at  LaMass House, Ngong Road, Nairobi.

Okwiri will make his comeback after a year-long injury layoff in a high-stakes Middleweight clash against Uganda’s Muhammad Sebyala, while Fatuma Zarika will battle Tanzania’s Halima Vunjabei in the Super Featherweight category.

Okwiri, speaking ahead of the bout, expressed confidence in his recovery and readiness: 

‎“I’ve healed, trained well, and this Friday, there’s no room for mistakes  it’s all about winning.”

On her part Zarika said: a echoed the sentiment, saying

The event is not just about fists and belts it’s about revival. Kenya Professional Boxing Union (KPBU) President Reuben Ndolo has reaffirmed the Union’s commitment to ensuring regular monthly fights, creating sustainable opportunities for local boxers.

“These monthly bouts are key,” said Ndolo. “Boxers must earn a living from the sport, and regular events will give them the platform to grow and provide for their families.”

In a further show of intent, Ndolo, now President of the Commonwealth Boxing Council (CBC), facilitated a major donation of boxing gear from Kalakoda Promotions  to Makongeni Boxing Club.

The equipment was handed over to head coach Justus Omondi Adie, a gesture aimed at strengthening grassroots development.

“Actions speak louder than words,” Ndolo said. “We believe African youth are the future of global sports. We’re not just talking, we’re investing in them.”

All roads lead to LaMass House  this Friday. Expect punches, pride, and a renewed promise for Kenyan boxing. Don’t miss the action!
