Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) women’s basketball team is set for a tough battle in Group B of the 2025 Women’s Basketball League Africa (WBLA), as they face defending champions Ferroviario de Maputo of Mozambique in what promises to be a thrilling showdown in Cairo, Egypt.
The Dockers, who finished as silver medalists in the 2023 edition, return to the continental stage with fresh energy and clear ambition under new head coach Nabil Kabalan.
KPA will tip off their campaign on Friday at 4.30 pm Kenyan time against Cameroon’s FAP at Al Ahly Stadium, a match expected to set the tone for their title push.
Group B also includes Nigeria’s First Bank, making it one of the toughest groups in this year’s competition.
The team held a smooth final training session at the Al Ahly Stadium on Thursday, with no injury concerns reported. The players looked sharp and focused, ready to represent Kenya on the big stage.
Elsewhere, Group A includes host club Al Ahly, Côte d’Ivoire’s FBA, Rwanda’s REG BBC, and Angola’s Sporting Clube de Luanda, while Group C brings together APR (Rwanda), CNSS (DR Congo), Bravehearts (Malawi), and AS Ville de Dakar (Senegal).
The 29th edition of the WBLA runs from December 4 to 15 in Cairo, with Africa’s best clubs eyeing the crown in what is expected to be a high-energy, competitive tournament.
