Africa’s fastest man Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala says he is now targeting even faster times this season after making a strong statement at the Kip Keino Classic on Friday.
Omanyala stormed to victory in the men’s 100m after clocking an impressive 9.86 seconds to reclaim the title and continue his return to top form.
The win came just weeks after he opened his season with a 9.98-second run at the Addis Ababa Grand Prix, showing clear signs that he is back to his best after a difficult period.
Speaking after the race, Omanyala said the victory has given him confidence as he looks ahead to bigger competitions.
He said he hopes to maintain his sub-10 second performances and improve to even faster times later in the season.
“We just appreciate the win today and from here onwards, it’s confidence-boosting till the end of the season,” said Omanyala.
The African record holder admitted he was under pressure before the race and did not know what to expect, but he was pleased with how everything turned out.
“I entered that field with a lot of tension and I didn’t know what to expect, but it was a wonderful race,” he added.
Omanyala will now turn his attention to the Botswana Golden Grand Prix on Sunday before heading to the World Athletics Relays as he continues preparations for major global events later this year.
His latest performance has raised hopes that Kenya’s sprint king could be set for another memorable season.
