Kenya Aquatics is preparing to host the National Long Course Swimming Championships from May 29-31 at the Kasarani Aquatic Arena in a major event expected to attract top swimmers from across East Africa.
The championship, approved by World Aquatics and Africa Aquatics, will bring together Kenya’s best swimmers alongside regional teams.
According to Kenya Aquatics Secretary General Collins Marigiri, teams from Madagascar, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Somalia have already confirmed participation.
Marigiri said the competition will give Kenyan swimmers a good chance to test themselves against strong regional opponents.
“This will be a strong meet and good exposure for our swimmers. We are asking them to stay focused in training as we head closer to the competition,” said Marigiri.
The event will also mark a major milestone for the federation after acquiring new competition equipment, including the Colorado System 7 timing device, a new scoreboard and an electronic starter horn.
The new technology is expected to improve race timing accuracy and help the event meet international standards.
The championship will also play a key role in Kenya’s preparations for major events later this year, including the Commonwealth Games, the Youth Olympic Games and the Africa Aquatics Zone 3 Championships.
The federation is expected to use the competition to assess swimmers and select teams for upcoming international assignments.
Kenya Aquatics believes hosting regular high-level competitions will help improve local talent and strengthen the country’s position in regional swimming.
Preparations for the event are ongoing, with organisers working to ensure everything is ready before swimmers dive into action at the end of May.
