The ongoing Sports Science Training Workshop continued on Wednesday with experts from Kenya and abroad sharing valuable knowledge on coaching, athlete performance, and modern sports technology.
Day three of the workshop began with an engaging session by Professor Omondi Oketch, an Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics at Technical University of Kenya, who spoke about the importance of language, communication, and performance in elite sports coaching.
He described communication as an invisible but critical part of evidence-based coaching and athlete success.
Participants also attended a session led by Dr. Michael Nicholson on the growing role of technology in sports.
Coaches and sports practitioners were taken through practical lessons on designing a 16-week pre-championship mesocycle to help athletes prepare effectively for major competitions.
Professor Zsolt Radák from the Hungarian University of Sports Science delivered a detailed presentation on training load monitoring in endurance programmes. His session focused on performance optimization, injury prevention, and proper athlete management.
Meanwhile, Dr. Issah Kweyu from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology guided participants through training periodization principles and the development of annual training plans, commonly known as macro-cycles.
Organisers said the first phase of the sports science workshop will conclude on Thursday before the second phase focusing on sports research begins on Friday and runs until May 18.
The workshop has brought together coaches, trainers, sports scientists, and other stakeholders seeking to improve athlete preparation and performance through modern scientific methods.
