Young learners in Baringo County took part in a vibrant celebration of World Athletics National Kids’ Day as the county marked five years of the Kids’ Athletics program through fun activities, sports and environmental conservation initiatives.
The event, held under the theme “Celebrating 5 Years of Kids’ Athletics,” brought together children from different schools in a day filled with exciting games and athletics activities aimed at identifying and nurturing young talent at an early age.
Organisers said the program seeks to encourage children to embrace active and healthy lifestyles while also teaching important values such as teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship.
Apart from the sporting activities, the event also focused on anti-doping education, where learners were taught the importance of integrity, fairness and clean sport.
The initiative aimed at helping young athletes understand the dangers of doping and the value of competing honestly from an early age.
Environmental conservation was also highlighted during the celebrations through tree-planting activities and the use of recycled materials.
Organisers said the move was meant to encourage children to protect the environment and grow into responsible future champions.
The colourful event ended with calls for continued support of grassroots sports development to help shape the next generation of Kenyan athletes.
