Gor Mahia were officially crowned the 2025/26 Kenyan Premier League champions on Sunday despite suffering a 1-0 defeat to Nairobi United in their final match of the season at Nyayo National Stadium.
The league title had already been secured before the final round of matches, and the loss did little to spoil the celebrations as K’Ogalo lifted the trophy in front of a packed stadium.
Nairobi United ended Gor Mahia’s season on a losing note thanks to a second-half strike from Enock Machaka. However, the result could not take away from what has been a successful campaign for the record Kenyan champions.
Gor Mahia finished the season at the top of the table with 69 points, reclaiming the league crown and further extending their status as the most successful club in Kenyan football history. Their longtime rivals AFC Leopards finished second.
The celebrations began early in the day as thousands of Gor Mahia supporters gathered in Nairobi before marching to Nyayo Stadium in a colourful show of support for their team.
Ahead of kick-off, emotions ran high as the club paid tribute to veteran players Philemon Otieno and Ernest Wendo, who made their final appearances for the Green Army after serving the club for 11 and nine years respectively.
Former Gor Mahia goalkeeper Jerim Onyango later paraded the league trophy around the stadium, while former captain and current Harambee Stars skipper Michael Olunga also joined the celebrations, giving fans a memorable moment before the match.
Nairobi United showed their respect to the champions by giving Gor Mahia a guard of honour before kick-off. However, once the game started, they produced a spirited performance and secured victory through Machaka’s goal.
Despite the defeat, the day belonged to Gor Mahia as players, officials, and fans celebrated another league title, marking a successful end to the 2025/26 Kenyan Premier League season.
