World football governing body FIFA has overturned the suspension of Hussein Mohamed and two other Football Kenya Federation officials, saying the process was unconstitutional.
The suspension had been pushed by FKF Vice President McDonald Mariga and supported by nine members of the FKF National Executive Committee over alleged fraud in the procurement of a Sh42.8 million insurance cover for the 2024 African Nations Championship, CHAN.
However, FIFA said the federation failed to follow the rules outlined in the FKF constitution before suspending Hussein Mohammed, acting General Secretary Dennis Gicheru, and NEC member Abdulahi Yusuf Ibrahim.
In a letter signed by FIFA Chief Member Associations Officer Elkhan Mammadov, the football body stated that the officials were not given proper constitutional protections, including the right to be heard.
FIFA pointed to Article 41 of the FKF constitution, which outlines the legal process for suspending federation officials. According to FIFA, the procedures followed by the Mariga-led faction did not meet the required standards and therefore could not produce valid legal effects.
The world football body has now declared the suspensions null and void, warning FKF leaders against actions that could return Kenyan football to periods of instability and conflict.
The dispute comes at a crucial time as Kenya continues preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations and future regional football tournaments.
