Harambee Stars defender Baron Ochieng has won his first league title in Egypt after helping Zamalek SC lift the Egyptian Premier League crown on Wednesday night.
The 20-year-old Kenyan defender was part of the celebrations at Cairo International Stadium as Zamalek secured their 15th league title after beating Ceramica Cleopatra FC 1-0.
Although Ochieng was not included in the matchday squad, he joined teammates on the pitch and later in the dressing room to celebrate the historic achievement.
The former Sofapaka player moved to Egypt in September last year and has now earned his first major trophy abroad.
Palestinian forward Oday Dabbagh scored the only goal of the match in the eighth minute to hand Zamalek the victory they needed to seal the title ahead of rivals Al Ahly SC and Pyramids.
The victory came just days after Zamalek suffered heartbreak in the CAF Confederation Cup final, where they lost on penalties to Algeria’s USM Alger.
Meanwhile in Norway, Harambee Stars forward Alfred Scriven played the full match as Bryne FK lost 3-0 to Raufoss IL in the OBOS Ligaen.
Scriven, who recently made headlines after receiving five crates of eggs as a reward for a strong performance, could not help Bryne avoid their fifth defeat of the season. The loss leaves the club 13th on the table with seven points from eight matches.
