Malkia Strikers eye semi-final spot as CAVB Championship quarters ties serve off

Kenya’s Malkia Strikers will be seeking to keep their perfect record intact when they face Algeria on Tuesday night in the quarter-finals of the 2026 CAVB African Women’s Nations Volleyball Championship at the Kasarani Indoor Arena in Nairobi.

Cameroon became the first team to book a semi-final ticket after defeating Uganda in the opening quarter-final played on Tuesday morning.

Attention now turns to the remaining three matches, with Rwanda taking on Ghana at 1pm, followed by the North African clash between Egypt and Tunisia at 4 pm.

The day will conclude with Kenya facing Algeria at 7pm.

The Malkia Strikers enter the contest with confidence after an impressive run in the group stage, where they maintained a 100 percent record and dominated their opponents without dropping a set.

However, Algeria is expected to provide a stern test as Kenya targets a place in the last four and continues its pursuit of continental glory on home soil.

The quarter-final winners will advance to the semi-finals scheduled for Thursday, September 3, with the championship carrying significant stakes beyond the African title.

The eventual champions will earn a direct qualification ticket to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, while the top three teams in the tournament will secure places at the 2027 FIVB Volleyball World Cup in North America.

For Kenya, the immediate objective is clear — overcome Algeria, reach the semi-finals and move a step closer to winning the African title in front of the home crowd.
