KCB Rugby will host Ugandan side KCB KOBS in a regional friendly dubbed ‘Sibling Rivalry’ on Saturday as both teams step up preparations for the upcoming 15s rugby season.
The match will be played at the KCB Sports Club in Ruaraka, Nairobi, with the main encounter scheduled to kick off at 4pm.
The fixture brings together two clubs sponsored by KCB Bank in Kenya and Uganda, providing an opportunity for players from the two countries to compete, exchange ideas and build stronger sporting ties across East Africa.
KCB KOBS, based in Kampala, are among Uganda’s most established rugby clubs. Founded in 1963, the side has won 13 Uganda Premiership titles, nine Uganda Cups and several National Sevens crowns.
The Ugandan team programme in Kenya includes a captain’s run, a visit to the KCB TRM branch and a corporate social responsibility activity at the National Youth Service along Thika Road.
KCB Rugby chairman James Mugo says the fixture reflects the club’s commitment to strengthening rugby links within the region while giving players an opportunity to test themselves against quality opposition.
KCB KOBS centre Ian Munyani says the visitors are looking forward to using the match to assess their preparations and build momentum ahead of the new season.
The match will be preceded by a university rugby clash between Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad and the University of Nairobi’s Mean Machine.
The friendly is also expected to provide an early test for the two teams as they fine-tune their combinations ahead of the competitive 15s calendar.
In Kenya, the season will gather momentum later this month with the Impala Floodlit Rugby Tournament, scheduled for October 17, 24 and 31 at Impala Grounds along Ngong Road in Nairobi.
