Kabras Sugar boosted by return of Jones Kubu for Christie 7s tournament

Kabras Sugar will welcome back playmaker Jones Kubu as they seek a strong finish to the 2026 SportPesa National Sevens Circuit at the Christie 7s this weekend.

The Fiji-born star has been included in the Kabras squad for the final leg, set for September 12 and 13 at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi, after missing the recent Embu 7s, Prinsloo 7s and Dala 7s.

Kubu’s most recent appearance came at the Driftwood 7s in Mombasa, where Kabras won the title and ended KCB’s nine-match unbeaten run against them. He also featured at the Kabeberi 7s.

His return provides Kabras with an added attacking option as they seek to collect valuable points and finish the circuit on a high.

However, Kabras will be without several regular players. Kevin Wekesa has travelled to the United Kingdom for the Ultimate Sevens tournament, while Griffin Chao and Chrispine Otieno have been left out of the Christie 7s squad.

Their absence has opened the door for Michael Oyoo, who comes into the team alongside Kubu.

Brian Mutua will captain the side, with experienced Kenya international Brian Tanga also included. Patrick Sabatia Lumumba, Ronald Wangila, Jackson Siketa, Derrick Ashihundu and Michael Olukusi add experience and versatility to the squad.

Rayvon Ambale, Victor Otieno, Brian Kiptanui and Mathias Osimbo complete the playing group.

Kabras head into the final leg having already claimed titles at the Dala and Driftwood tournaments. They will now have to make the most of the Christie 7s after KCB moved into the lead in the overall standings following their victory at the Embu 7s.

Kabras have been drawn in Pool B alongside KU Blak Blad, NYS Spades and newly promoted Division Two champions Mean Machine.
