Kenya’s rugby community is in mourning following the death of former Kenya Lionesses head coach Felix “Ade” Oloo, a respected figure who played a key role in developing the sport in the country.
In a statement released on May 5, 2026, Kenya Rugby confirmed his passing, describing him as a dedicated coach, mentor, and leader who left a lasting mark on both men’s and women’s rugby.
Popularly known as “Ade” or “Mwalimu,” Oloo was widely admired for his commitment to growing the game, especially at the grassroots level.
Oloo began his rugby journey as a player at Nakuru RFC, where he enjoyed a successful 15-year career between 2003 and 2017. During that time, he helped the club win Kenya Cup titles and other major local competitions.
After retiring, he moved into coaching, working with both men’s and women’s teams before rising to the national stage. As head coach of the Kenya Lionesses, he guided the team to one of its biggest achievements—qualification for the Tokyo Olympics.
Despite facing limited resources, Oloo built competitive teams and helped strengthen development structures in women’s rugby. His efforts contributed to the growth and visibility of the sport in Kenya.
Former players and colleagues remember him as a disciplined and passionate mentor who always pushed for excellence and player development.
His death is a huge loss to Kenyan rugby, with many paying tribute to a man who dedicated his life to nurturing talent and advancing the game.
