NOC-K and Safaricom explore digital partnership to support Team Kenya

NOC-K and Safaricom explore digital partnership to support Team Kenya

The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) is exploring a digital partnership with Safaricom aimed at mobilising greater support and resources for Team Kenya athletes ahead of major international competitions.

NOC-K First Deputy President Barnaba Korir and Secretary General John Ogolla held a strategy meeting with Safaricom Chief Executive Officer Peter Ndegwa to discuss opportunities for deeper collaboration between the telecommunications company, sports federations and Team Kenya.

A key focus of the meeting was the Team Kenya Digital Platform, which NOC-K hopes to develop into a digital fundraising and engagement tool.

The platform could provide Kenyans with an opportunity to connect with Team Kenya athletes and contribute towards their preparations before, during and after major competitions.

The proposed partnership comes as Kenya prepares for major sporting events, including the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, the Malta 2027 Commonwealth Youth Games and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

NOC-K says the collaboration will seek to use technology and Safaricom’s extensive digital ecosystem to create new opportunities for Kenyans to support and invest in the journeys of Team Kenya athletes.

The initiative is expected to strengthen the connection between athletes and their supporters while creating additional avenues for resource mobilisation as Kenya prepares for the upcoming global sporting events.
