SportPesa launches National Pool Circuit in Kenya

SportPesa launches National Pool Circuit in Kenya

Betting firm SportPesa has unveiled a multi-million-shilling investment in pool, launching a new national circuit aimed at transforming the sport from a largely recreational pastime into a structured and competitive professional discipline in Kenya.

The SportPesa National Pool Circuit, launched in partnership with Kenyan promoters Cuevolution Plus Africa, will provide players with regular competition, increased visibility and a pathway to develop their skills and pursue pool as a viable career.

The circuit will begin with a nationwide grassroots phase from September 21 to October 4, with competitions held simultaneously across multiple venues and hubs.

The programme will then progress to regional championships before moving to three circuit events in Eldoret from November 6 to 8, Nakuru from November 20-22 and Mombasa from December 4-6.

The season will culminate in the SportPesa National Pool Finals in Nairobi from January 8 to 10, 2027, bringing together the leading players who emerge from the circuit.

SportPesa CEO Ronald Karauri says Kenya has significant pool talent that remains largely undiscovered due to a lack of structures and sustained investment.

He says the initiative seeks to create a platform where players can compete consistently, earn recognition and ultimately benefit economically from their talent.

The investment comes as competitive pool continues to grow into a major global sporting industry. According to the World Pool Association, more than 11.4 million US dollars, equivalent to about 1.5 billion shillings, was distributed in prize money across WPA-sanctioned events in 2025.

Cuevolution Plus Africa Director Collins Tuwei says the partnership will help take pool in Kenya to another level by bringing together talent from across the country and providing consistent competition.

The organisers also expect the circuit to create opportunities beyond the players, including for coaches, tournament officials, club operators, technicians and content creators.

The SportPesa National Pool Circuit is therefore expected to provide a structured progression from grassroots competitions to national-level events, while opening new commercial and professional opportunities within Kenya's growing sporting ecosystem.
