‎Mieno says KCB return after 16 years has come with new responsibilities

‎Mieno says KCB return after 16 years has come with new responsibilities

Veteran midfielder Humphrey Mieno says his return to KCB after 16 years has come with new responsibilities, as he now plays the role of a mentor rather than a young rising star.

Mieno first joined the Bankers in 2009 as a 20-year-old and spent two seasons before moving to Sofapaka in 2011.

After playing for a number other clubs, the 36-year-old made a surprise return to KCB during the last transfer window.

Speaking to the club’s media team, the former Tusker captain said many things have changed since his first spell.

“Back then, I was young and focused on building my career. Now I guide, mentor and lead younger players,” Mieno said.

With none of his former teammates still at the club, Mieno admitted that returning was not easy and required quick adjustment.

“You do not have a lot of time to settle. You must adapt fast if you want to perform. Players have changed, and the environment is different,” he added.

‎The former Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards midfielder encouraged young players to stay strong even during difficult moments.

“You must be aggressive, resilient and brave enough to stand up when things are not going your way,” he said.

‎Mieno also spoke about his humble beginnings in Ziwani Estate, where his love for football began through the famous Koth Biro tournament.

“Everything around us was about football. That environment shaped me into the player I became,” he said.

‎The experienced midfielder says his biggest motivation is self-improvement, both in training and during matches.

“Every day, I push myself to be better than I was the previous day,” Mieno noted.

‎Now in his second chapter at KCB, Mieno hopes his experience will help guide the team and inspire young players chasing success in the Sportpesa League.
