‘Marcelo’ Ouma close to making his comeback after nine months out with injury

Harambee Stars defender Eric ‘Marcelo’ Ouma is edging closer to a return to competitive football after nine months on the sidelines.

The 29-year-old left-back rejoined his Polish club, Raków Częstochowa, this week as he prepares for the crucial return-to-play assessments.

Ouma suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon during training with the Polish champions on August 28, 2025, a serious injury that ruled him out of both club and national team action for the 2025/2026 season.

Since then, he has been undergoing recovery sessions in Nairobi, gradually building up strength and fitness.

Speaking about his progress, Ouma said, “This week I am supposed to do the RTP (return-to-play) tests. Everything will be assessed, and hopefully I can start training with the team. I am looking forward to the next season. For this season, there are about eight games remaining, and I have been out for more than seven months. I cannot just come back and play immediately; there are protocols to follow. My focus is on being fully ready for next season.”

Since joining Raków Częstochowa from Swedish side AIK in 2024, Ouma has made 47 appearances, scoring once and providing six assists. The former Gor Mahia star now looks ahead to regaining his full form and continuing his contribution to both club and country.

Ouma’s gradual comeback offers hope to fans of the Harambee Stars and Raków as he eyes a full return to the pitch next season.
