Bandari produced a disciplined and resilient performance to secure a valuable away point in a goalless draw against Sofapaka in a tightly contested Kenyan Premier League clash at Kasarani Annex on Friday.
Heading into the match, Bandari looked sharp and purposeful, especially in the opening minutes, as they pushed forward in search of an early breakthrough.
Erisat Orute came close in the fourth minute after connecting with a low cross from Abdalla Hassan, but Sofapaka defence reacted quickly to deny the opener.
The visitors continued to press high, forcing a corner just moments later, and maintained their attacking intent. Orute again threatened in the 11th minute, but his effort drifted wide, while goalkeeper Allaine Ngeleka remained alert to keep Sofapaka at bay at the other end.
Despite Sofapaka enjoying spells of possession, Bandari’s backline stayed compact and well-organised, frustrating the hosts’ attacking efforts. The coastal side nearly capitalised on defensive lapses late in the first half, with Frank Ouya missing a clear chance and Geoffrey Ojunga leading another dangerous attack that was eventually cleared.
After the break, Bandari absorbed pressure as Sofapaka pushed numbers forward in search of a goal. However, Bernard Mwalala’s men remained composed, defending solidly while still posing a threat on the counter.
Bandari’s best chance of the second half fell in the 58th minute when Ojunga delivered a pinpoint cross to Ouya, but the forward fired wide, letting Sofapaka off the hook.
Coach Mwalala made tactical changes, introducing fresh legs in attack, including Amza Moubarack, Alvin Ngoto, and Emoni Tanui, as Bandari looked to snatch a late winner. However, the hosts also came close in stoppage time, only for Adriano Oloo to miss narrowly.
In the end, Bandari walked away with a hard-earned point on the road, a result that strengthens their position while continuing to pile pressure on relegation-threatened Sofapaka.
The draw highlights Bandari’s defensive discipline and growing consistency as the league campaign heads into a crucial stage.
