Kenya’s top distance runners are preparing for a tough challenge at the 2026 World Cross Country Championships in Florida, where a demanding course is expected to test strength, speed and endurance.
The World Athletics Cross Country Championships will be held on January 10, 2026, in Tallahassee, Florida, with the world’s best runners set to battle on a course inspired by the region’s natural landscape.
Kenya will once again be among the favourites, led by Daniel Simiu Ebenyo.
Ebenyo is chasing his first world cross-country medal and has made it clear that gold is his main target.
The course at Apalachee Regional Park is designed to push athletes to their limits. It features a challenging mix of sand, mud and water, along with rolling hills and a signature “rollercoaster” section that will demand both strength and smart racing.
The 10km senior race will be run over two main loops, with runners passing through four tough challenge areas several times. Wide grass sections and red clay paths through pine forests are also expected to play a key role in the race.
Despite strong competition from Ethiopia, Australia and the host nation, Kenya remains confident. The country’s long history of success in cross country and its ability to handle tough terrain give the team belief going into the championships.
With high expectations and a difficult course ahead, Kenyan fans will be hoping their stars rise to the occasion and once again shine on the world stage.
