Kabras Sugar make history as they retain Kenya Cup title for a fifth consecutive time

Kabras Sugar RFC made history after beating KCB RFC 14-8 to win their fifth consecutive Kenya Cup title in a thrilling final played at the ASK Showground in Kakamega on Saturday.

The victory saw Kabras become the first team in 44 years to win five straight league titles, matching the great achievements previously set by Impala RFC and Nondescripts RFC in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

The final was closely contested, with KCB taking a slim 3-0 lead at halftime through a penalty by Brian Wahinya after dominating possession in the opening half.

Kabras returned stronger after the break, with fly-half Ntabeni Dukisa leading the comeback through crucial penalties before KCB briefly regained the lead with a try from Shiasi.

The turning point came when Kabras powered over the line from a rolling maul, allowing Hillary Odhiambo to score the decisive try before Dukisa added the conversion to seal a 14-8 victory.

KCB pushed hard in the closing minutes, but Kabras’ solid defence stood firm as the Kakamega-based side extended their unbeaten run and strengthened their dominance in Kenyan rugby.

The match also began with a minute of silence in honour of the late Felix “Ade” Oloo, who passed away earlier this week in the United States.
