Gor Mahia keen to extend lead as they face Muranga Seal, Bidco fight for survival

The Kenyan Premier League (KPL) title race and relegation battle continue to heat up as league leaders Gor Mahia look to extend their lead at the top when they face Murang’a Seal on Sunday afternoon.

With only a few matches left before the end of the season, every point has become important both at the top and bottom of the table.

Gor Mahia head into the match sitting first on the standings with 65 points, just one point ahead of AFC Leopards, who reduced the gap after beating Kakamega Homeboyz 2-0 on Saturday.

K’Ogalo will be under pressure to respond with a win when they take on Murang’a Seal at Nyayo National Stadium from 4.15 pm.

The record champions needed a dramatic 97th-minute equaliser from Ghanaian striker Ebenezer Assifuah to rescue a point against Kenya Police in their last match. They will now be hoping to return to winning ways and strengthen their push for another league title.

However, Murang’a Seal have recently proved to be a difficult opponent for Gor Mahia. Earlier this season, Gor came from behind to secure a thrilling 3-2 victory, while last season all their meetings ended in draws.

At the bottom of the table, Bidco United face a must-win encounter against Shabana at Wang’uru Stadium in Kirinyaga County.

Bidco are currently deep in the relegation zone with 24 points and are running out of time to save their top-flight status. Another poor result could confirm their drop to the National Super League after six seasons in the KPL.

The Oilers have struggled badly this season and are currently on an eight-match winless run. They have managed only one victory in their last 28 league matches.

Shabana are also searching for better form after failing to win their last three matches, including a 1-0 defeat to Mara Sugar in midweek.
