Gor Mahia crowned champions without kicking a ball after APS Bomet cage Leopards

Gor Mahia crowned champions without kicking a ball after APS Bomet cage Leopards

Record champions Gor Mahia have won the 2025/2026 Kenyan Premier League title after rivals AFC Leopards suffered a 2-1 defeat to APS Bomet on Sunday at Kericho Green Stadium.

Gor Mahia were not in action after their match against Mara Sugar was postponed by the Sports Disputes Tribunal, but the results elsewhere were enough to hand K’Ogalo their 22nd league crown with three matches still remaining.

AFC Leopards needed a win to keep their slim title hopes alive, but APS Bomet produced a strong performance to upset Ingwe in an exciting match.

Philip Wasai scored twice for Bomet to silence Leopards supporters and confirm Gor Mahia as champions. Leopards managed to pull one goal back late in the game after a deflection from Cliff Otieno ended up in the net, but it was not enough to avoid defeat.

The victory was also important for APS Bomet, who reportedly had a cash reward promised by club patron Kipchumba Murkomen if they won the match.

Gor Mahia have now reclaimed the league title they lost last season to Kenya Police. The title victory also means the club will return to CAF Champions League football next season.

For AFC Leopards, the defeat extends their long wait for a league title. Ingwe last won the Kenyan league in 1998.

In other Premier League matches played on Sunday, relegated Sofapaka drew 1-1 with Shabana at Nyayo National Stadium.

Francis Ghartey gave Sofapaka the lead in the first half before Kevin Omundi equalized for Shabana in the 78th minute.

Murang'a Seal defeated Bidco United 2-0, with Joe Waithira scoring both goals.

At Mbaraki Stadium in Mombasa, Bandari FC beat Tusker 1-0 thanks to Erick Balecho’s winner, while Kenya Police FC played out a goalless draw against Nairobi United.
