KCB shift focus to chase for local glory after securing silver at Africa Championships

Fresh from a second-place finish at the 2026 CAVB Women’s African Club Championship in Egypt, KCB Volleyball Club says it is now shifting focus to winning local titles.

The team returned home on Monday after claiming silver in Cairo, where they reached the final before losing 3-1 to Egyptian side Al Ahly.

KCB’s performance was a major improvement from last year when they finished fifth in the same tournament.

Following their return, KCB Bank rewarded the team with Sh4 million during a breakfast reception held at a Nairobi hotel.

Team patron Judith Sidi praised the players for their strong performance and challenged them to maintain the same spirit in local competitions.

She said the team had raised Kenya’s profile in African volleyball and proved they can compete with the continent’s best.

Team captain Mercy Moim said the club’s future looks bright because of the emergence of young players who performed well during the tournament.

She praised players such as Malyn Terry Tata, Sharon Cherono, Josephine Kataa and Fridah Boke for stepping up when needed.

Three KCB players were also named in the tournament’s Dream Team.

Malyn Terry Tata won the Best Opposite Attacker award, Juliana Namutira was named Best Outside Hitter, while Sharon Cherono took home the Best Middle Blocker award.

KCB will return to action next week in the Kenya Volleyball Federation League where they are scheduled to face Post Bank, KU, A Plus and Kenya Army.
