Kenya Pipeline coach Omondi shift focus to league action after winning bronze at African Club Championship

Kenya Pipeline coach Omondi shift focus to league action after winning bronze at African Club Championship

Kenya Pipeline ended their campaign at the 2026 Women’s African Volleyball Club Championship on a winning note after defeating Tunisia’s Carthage VC to secure the bronze medal in Cairo, Egypt.

The Kenyan side bounced back strongly from the painful semifinal loss to fellow Kenyan rivals KCB by beating Carthage VC 3-1 in Thursday’s third-place playoff match.

Pipeline claimed the opening set 25-17 with a dominant display, but the Tunisians responded in the second set to level the match after winning 26-17.

The third set proved to be the turning point of the contest as Geoffrey Omondi’s charges held their nerve to win a tightly contested battle 26-24 before sealing victory in the fourth set with a 25-21 win.

The result saw Kenya Pipeline finish third in the continental competition for the third straight year, having also claimed bronze in previous editions. It was also their eighth bronze medal in the history of the tournament.

Despite celebrating another podium finish, head coach Omondi admitted the team had travelled to Egypt with bigger ambitions.

“We have managed to secure third position, although that was not our main target when we came here,” said Omondi.

“We are happy to maintain the same position we achieved last year, but our main focus remains winning gold in the near future.”

Pipeline last lifted the African title in 2005 and have now gone 21 years without winning the continental crown.

Omondi said the team will now shift focus to domestic assignments as they aim to maintain their dominance locally.

“We now return home to focus on our league matches because we still have several games to play. We also have the Kenya Cup ahead of us, so that is where our attention goes next,” he added.
