KCB Women’s Volleyball Team has named a strong and experienced squad for the 2026 Africa Women’s Club Championship set to take place in Cairo, Egypt.
The team is expected to depart for Egypt on Saturday morning ahead of the two-week tournament that will run from April 11-24, bringing together top clubs from across the continent.
KCB head into the championship with confidence, aiming to reclaim their place among Africa’s top teams after finishing fifth in last year’s competition. The bankers are former continental champions, having won the title in 2006 and 2022.
The squad is led by the experienced former Malkia Strikers captain Mercy Moim. Other players in the team are Juliana Namutira, Sharleen Maywa, Deborah Jesang, and Belinda Barasa.
Kenyan international Esther Mutinda and libero Josephine Kataa also made the traveling squad.
Middle blocker Mildred Cherop also rejoins the squad after a one-year stint in the United Arab Emirates, further strengthening the team. However, KCB will miss the services of captain Edith Wisa, who is unavailable due to personal reasons.
The technical bench is led by Japheth Munala, assisted by David Kinga, with Kenya Volleyball Federation Vice President Paul Bitok serving as Technical Director.
Speaking during the team’s flag-off ceremony, KCB Group Director of Marketing and Communication Rosalind Gichuru said the championship offers a big opportunity for players to showcase their talent at the highest level.
Assistant coach Kinga expressed confidence in the team, saying preparations have been good and the players are motivated despite expecting tough competition.
A total of 24 teams from 14 countries will compete in this year’s championship, including top Egyptian clubs such as Zamalek and Al Ahly.
Kenya will be represented by KCB, Kenya Pipeline, and DCI, highlighting the country’s growing strength in women’s volleyball on the continent.
Back home, KCB has also been in good form and have booked a slot in Kenya Cup quarterfinals.
