Kenya Sevens side Shujaa has named exciting youngster Victor Mola in the squad for the second leg of the HSBC World Championship set for May 29 to 31 in Valladolid, Spain.
Mola is set to make his national team debut after impressive performances for Strathmore Leos and age-grade teams. His inclusion is one of the major highlights in the squad as Kenya looks to improve on their seventh-place finish at the Hong Kong Sevens last month.
The young rugby star has been rising steadily in Kenyan rugby. He won the top try scorer and most promising player awards at the 2024 Great Rift 10s and was also named the most promising player at the 2022 Dala 7s tournament.
Mola first made his name at Kisumu RFC before joining Strathmore Leos, where he developed under experienced coach Louis Khisia, who is currently Shujaa’s assistant coach.
He was part of the Chipu squad in 2023 and has also represented Kenya in the Rugby League national team during the Mid-East Rugby League Championship in Ghana.
Mola has featured for Kenya in the U20 Barthes Cup and the World Rugby U20 Trophy, gaining valuable international experience before earning his first senior call-up.
Shujaa will be jointly captained by George Ooro and Samuel Asati during the tournament in Spain.
Other key players in the squad include Kevin Wekesa, Dennis Abukuse, Brian Tanga, Nygel Amaitsa, Festus Shiasi, Chrissant Ojwang, John Okoth, and Patrick Odongo as Kenya targets a stronger performance on the world stage.
