Kenya’s national rugby sevens team Shujaa ended their Hong Kong SVNS Championship campaign on a high after beating France 21-7 in a playoff match on Sunday.
Playing at the famous Kai Tak Park Stadium, Shujaa showed determination and control to secure a seventh-place finish.
Kenya made a bright start, with Nygel Amaitsa scoring the opening try in the sixth minute to give Shujaa a 7-0 lead. France responded well, as Maxim Granell crossed over to level the score at 7-7 before halftime.
In the second half, Shujaa stepped up their performance. Festus Shiasi made a brilliant break, sprinting through the French defense to score under the posts. The successful conversion pushed Kenya ahead 14-7.
Kenya continued to dominate and made good use of a scrum opportunity, with co-captain Samuel Asati powering over for the third try. The conversion sealed a comfortable 21-7 win for Shujaa.
The victory ensured a positive finish for Kenya in Hong Kong as they now turn their focus to the next leg in Valladolid, Spain, scheduled for April 29-30.
Shujaa will be aiming to improve their performance and maintain a place among the top eight teams.
