Government pledges support for skating star Kelvin Kiarie

Government pledges support for skating star Kelvin Kiarie

The Government has pledged full support to Kenyan skating sensation Kelvin Kiarie as he prepares to represent the country at the World Skate Games in Paraguay later this year.

Speaking during a meeting with the young skating star at Talanta Plaza, Principal Secretary for Sports Elijah Mwangi urged athletes involved in emerging sports to officially register with their federations and the Sports Registrar’s office to strengthen their professional growth and recognition.

Mwangi said formal registration would help athletes gain identity and credibility, especially in cases where sports federations face leadership wrangles or fail to comply with regulations.

The PS congratulated Kiarie for flying Kenya’s flag high on the international stage after his impressive performances in Africa and beyond.

Kiarie first rose to prominence after winning gold and silver medals for Kenya during an international skating competition in Benin. He later added two more gold medals at the Africa Skate Games in Egypt.

His outstanding performances earned him qualification for the World Skate Games set for October in Paraguay.

The skating star is also planning to travel to China for a two-week training camp ahead of the global competition.

In recognition of his achievements, the government, through the National Awarding Scheme, honoured Kiarie for his success in international competitions.

Mwangi further assured athletes and teams of government support, calling on them to submit detailed calendars of events to the Ministry to allow proper planning and facilitation through budget allocations.

He added that President William Ruto’s administration remains committed to improving athletes’ welfare and transforming Kenya into a global sporting powerhouse.
