Kithi pledges support for sports and arts as he takes over as SASDF boss

High Court Advocate George Kithi has officially taken over as the new Chairperson of the Sports, Arts and Social Development Fund (SASDF) for a three-year term.

Kithi succeeds Jackson Tuwei, who has been serving as the chairman of the Fund since 2019. The handover ceremony was held on Wednesday at Talanta Plaza in Nairobi, marking a new chapter for one of Kenya’s key institutions that supports sports and creative talent.

The event was attended by Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, government officials, board members, and stakeholders from the sports and creative sectors.

Speaking during the ceremony, CS Mvurya praised Tuwei for his strong leadership and commitment during his tenure. He said that under Tuwei’s stewardship, the Fund became more stable and effective in supporting Kenyan athletes and artists.

The CS noted that government reforms helped secure the Fund, ensuring that sports federations receive timely financial support. This, he said, has enabled athletes to prepare well for competitions and represent the country with pride.

Kithi was appointed to the position on February 6 by President William Ruto. As chairman, he will lead the board in managing resources allocated to sports and cultural initiatives across the country.

The Sports, Arts and Social Development Fund plays a key role in nurturing talent and promoting national development through sports and the creative industry.

Kithi takes over at a time when the country is pushing for stronger structures to support athletes and artists, with expectations high that the Fund will continue to grow and deliver better results.
