The fight for the Sportpesa League top spot takes centre stage on Sunday as match week 11 comes to an exciting close with four big games lined up across the country. All eyes will be on Gusii Stadium, where Shabana host Gor Mahia in a high-stake clash that could reshape the title race.
AFC Leopards go into Sunday’s action sitting top of the table with 27 points, just one point ahead of their bitter rivals Gor Mahia.
Kakamega Homeboyz complete the top three with 24 points, the same tally as Tusker, making today’s fixtures crucial at both ends of the table.
Shabana v Gor Mahia
Shabana welcome Gor Mahia to Gusii Stadium from 2pm in the standout match of the round. The fixture has dominated headlines in recent weeks following a venue dispute, after FKF initially proposed Kasarani Stadium. Shabana objected strongly, insisting Gusii is their rightful home ground.
In the end, FKF approved Gusii Stadium, but with strict security measures in place to prevent a repeat of the chaos seen during their May 2025 meeting that left several fans injured.
On the pitch, Gor Mahia know a win could take them to the top of the table, at least temporarily.
K’Ogalo are determined to avoid a repeat of last season, when they ended the campaign without a trophy. With Leopards also strongly chasing the title, the pressure is already on.
Shabana, currently fifth, are eager to bounce back after a 3-1 loss to Nairobi United. Since returning to the top flight in 2023, they are yet to beat Gor Mahia, who have won three of their four meetings, with one ending in a draw.
Tusker v AFC Leopards
At Nyayo National Stadium from 4pm, Tusker face league leaders AFC Leopards in another match that could have a major impact on the title race.
Leopards reclaimed top spot after a convincing 2-0 win over Nairobi United in midweek. Coach Fred Ambani has openly stated Ingwe’s ambition to end their long 28-year wait for a league title.
Tusker, who sit fourth with 24 points, have not played yet this year but come into the game on the back of a 1-0 win over APS Bomet. A victory for the Brewers would see them level on points with Leopards as they continue their push for a 13th league crown.
Ulinzi Stars v Nairobi United
At the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Lang’ata, Ulinzi Stars host Nairobi United from 3pm. Ulinzi are 14th on the table but will be boosted by a strong 3-0 win over Posta Rangers, with league top scorer Paul Okoth netting a hat-trick.
Nairobi United are looking to recover from a 2-0 loss to Leopards. The match also marks their first outing without head coach Nicholas Muyoti, who is reportedly set to join Police as an assistant coach.
Posta Rangers v Kariobangi Sharks
Posta Rangers face bottom-placed Kariobangi Sharks at Kasarani Annex from 2pm in a crucial relegation battle. Posta sit ninth and want to climb the table, while Sharks, rooted bottom with 12 points, desperately need a win to keep their survival hopes alive.
With the title race tight and the relegation fight heating up, Sunday’s league action promises drama, tension and plenty of talking points for Kenyan football fans.
