‎‎Kayole Starlets seeking to hit back against Madira in Women Premier League action

abc

Kayole Starlets will be aiming to get their Kenyan Women Premier League (KWPL) campaign back on track when they face Madira Soccer Assassins on Sunday at Utalii Grounds.

‎‎The Nairobi-based side is seeking a response after suffering a 2–1 defeat to league leaders Trinity Starlets last weekend, a result that saw them slip to fourth place on the standings.

Despite their strong start to the season, that loss highlighted areas the team needs to improve, especially in attack.

‎‎Assistant coach Vincent Ngesa is confident his players have learned from the setback and are ready to deliver a stronger performance.

“We have addressed the mistakes from the last match. The players created chances but did not take them. We focused on that in training, and the team is sharp and motivated,” Ngesa said.

‎‎Kayole Starlets have earned a reputation as one of the most consistent teams in the league, built on solid defending and quick transitions.

They currently have 16 points and know a win could push them into the top two, depending on other results.

‎‎Their opponents, Madira Soccer Assassins, are placed 10th and are still searching for consistency in their debut KWPL season.

However, they will be encouraged by the chance to test themselves against one of the title contenders. Victory for Madira would lift them to ninth and boost their confidence as the season progresses.

‎‎Elsewhere in the league this weekend, Kisped Queens will host Bungoma Queens at Moi Stadium in Kisumu, while defending champions Kenya Police Bullets take on table leaders Trinity Starlets in a key fixture.

Gideon Starlets will meet four-time champions Vihiga Queens at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay.

‎‎The weekend action begins on Saturday with Ulinzi Starlets facing Kisumu All Starlets at Dandora Stadium.

‎‎After nine rounds, Trinity Starlets lead the table with 20 points, followed by Ulinzi Starlets on 17. Kenya Police Bullets and Kayole Starlets are tied on 16 points, with Vihiga Queens completing the top five on 15.

‎‎With the title race already taking shape, this weekend’s matches could play a big role in setting the early direction of the KWPL season.
