Tusker head coach Charles Okere has come out strongly to defend goalkeeper Brandon Obiero after his mistake cost the brewers a 1-0 defeat to Nairobi United on Wednesday evening.

‎Obiero misjudged a long-range effort from Kevin Otiende in the 10th minute, allowing the ball to slip into the net in what proved to be the decisive moment at the Sportpesa Arena in Murang’a County.

‎Speaking after the match, Okere said the error was unfortunate but normal in football, insisting Obiero remains a top-quality goalkeeper who has helped the team in many matches.

“If you look at the goal, he simply misjudged the shot and it went in. These things happen in football. As a team, we take responsibility. Brandon has been very important for us in many games, and we will work on the mistakes that cost us today,” Okere said.

‎The loss ended Tusker’s three-match winning run and handed Nairobi United their first victory in three games. Despite going behind early, the brewers pushed hard for an equaliser but struggled to turn their chances into goals.

‎Okere admitted his side created several opportunities but lacked sharpness in front of goal.

“We played well and created chances, but we were not clinical. This league is very competitive, and you must score when you get your chances. We will work on that ahead of our next match,” he added.

‎Tusker, who are chasing a record-extending 14th Kenya Premier League title, will look to bounce back when they face APS Bomet on Sunday in Awendo.
