‎Mombasa United beat rivals Mwatate United in NSL Coast derby

Mombasa United returned to winning ways in style after beating Mwatate United 3–0 in a National Super League Coast derby played on Wednesday afternoon at Mbaraki Sports Ground.

‎The hosts were on the front foot from the first whistle and took an early lead in the sixth minute. Nehemiah Onchiri calmly scored from the penalty spot after Jackson Watee was fouled in the box.

‎Mombasa United continued to dominate the match, creating several clear chances. Watee, Fidel Omondi and Abdalla Amad all went close as Mwatate United struggled to settle.

‎Mwatate’s best chance of the first half came in the 25th minute when Emmanuel Kemei broke through on goal, but his shot narrowly missed the target.

Five minutes later, Mombasa United doubled their lead. Fidel Omondi tapped in a neat cross from Watee to make it 2–0.

‎The visitors managed a few attempts before the break, with Kipngeno Nickson testing goalkeeper Richard Ebenyo from distance, but Mombasa United went into halftime firmly in control.

‎After the restart, Mwatate United showed more urgency and almost pulled one back early in the second half. Tati Yawa beat the goalkeeper with a shot, only for defender Denis Toeri to clear the ball off the line.

‎Mombasa United sealed the win four minutes from time when Kevin Okoth fired home a powerful shot following a well-worked corner, putting the result beyond doubt.

‎Mwatate United had a late chance to score a consolation goal, but Nickson missed from the penalty spot in the closing moments of the match.
