‎Odhiambo backs his Kakamega Homeboyz team to lift league title

Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Patrick Odhiambo believes his side has what it takes to win the Sportpesa League title this season, despite stiff competition from fellow title contenders.

Speaking ahead of a busy run of fixtures, Odhiambo said Homeboyz are not in the league to make up the numbers but to compete for top honours.

The tactician, who is in his second spell with the Kakamega-based club, is confident that the yellow and green outfit can finally go one step further after narrowly missing out on the title in recent seasons.

“It is true, and it is open that we are aiming for the league title,” Odhiambo said. “That is our target, and I believe we have what it takes to achieve it. We know the competition will be tough, but Homeboyz are competitors, not participants.”

The former Gor Mahia assistant coach admitted that the race will be tight, with many teams around them also chasing the title.

He revealed plans to strengthen the squad during the January transfer window to give the team an extra edge in the second half of the season.

“We have to prepare very well. Even though we are among the top teams, I want to bolster the squad in January,” he said.

“There are a few areas we want to improve so that the team is stronger everywhere and ready to push hard in the new year with only one goal — to finish top of the league.”

Homeboyz are currently second on the 18-team league table with 20 points, just one point behind leaders and defending champions Kenya Police.

They have recorded five wins, several draws and suffered only two losses in their last 12 matches, showing steady form.

Odhiambo’s men face a tough test next when they take on Gor Mahia at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani on Wednesday in a highly anticipated fixture that could have a big impact on the title race.

With confidence high and reinforcements planned, Homeboyz will be hoping this season finally delivers their first-ever top-flight league crown.
