Kenyan football prospects Eliot Matazo and Sammy Henia-Kamau are set to play in the English Premier League next season after Hull City secured promotion with a narrow 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough in the playoff final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
The win marked a major achievement for Hull City as they booked their place in England’s top flight for the new season.
However, the two Kenyan-linked players were not involved in the decisive match.
Former AS Monaco midfielder Eliot Matazo missed the final due to an anterior ligament injury that has kept him out of action.
Young forward Sammy Henia-Kamau was also left out of the matchday squad as he continues to feature for Hull City’s Under-21 side.
Despite missing the playoff final, Henia-Kamau has enjoyed a promising season with the club’s youth team. The talented attacker has made 12 appearances for Hull City U21s and scored four goals.
The youngster, who was born to an English mother and a Kenyan father, joined Hull City from Swansea City in August 2025.
His impressive performances recently earned him his first-ever call-up to the Harambee Stars squad ahead of next month’s international friendlies against Palestine and Kyrgyzstan.
The promotion now gives both Matazo and Henia-Kamau a chance to compete at the highest level of English football next season as Hull City prepare for life in the Premier League.
